Who We Are

Outreach HomepageThe University of Liverpool Maths Outreach Team is a group of staff and students committed to providing interactive and enriching mathematics to school pupils from Year 1 up to Year 13. The team is headed by Chris Marchant, a graduate of the Department, who returned to take up the post in 2006 after gaining several years’ experience as a secondary mathematics teacher.

Outreach is an important staple of the Department’s activities and we typically spend 70 – 80 days per annum visiting schools and working on collaborative projects, reaching between 8,000 and 10,000 pupils in each academic year. We work with very diverse groups of pupils, from a variety of backgrounds, including looked-after children, and Widening Participation cohorts, as well as Gifted & Talented.

What We Offer

We can visit schools throughout the UK and the cost in your area can be found by visiting the Prices section.

A day’s visit would normally consist of four workshops (the exceptions being BIG Maths and GCSE Revision), each of up to one hour’s duration, and these can be mixed and matched from the range that we offer. Please explore the links for more details of these.

Visits are usually delivered by a team of two staff or students from the Department, although we may on occasion bring more. Please view the Maths Outreach DBS policy 2023-24 to read our policy on DBS checks for Maths Outreach staff and students who work with children and young people.
